Day 1Guiyang - Cave Camping Base

Today you wil arrive in Guiyang and meet your local guide at airport exit. And you will grab lunch at airport and transfer 2 hrs to start your trip. Firstly, you will hike past mountains featuring Karst landform and reach to an old Buyi village. Walk around the village and hike uphill (about 30 mins) to check in a local Karst cave. And your guide will take you to explore the cave. Then, you can dinner in the cave. 

At night, you can camp in the cave after dinner in the cave or stay at the hotel nearby.

Day 2Cave Camping Base-Kaili

After breakfast today, you will walk for 30 minutes to reach the van, which will take you on a 3-hour drive to Kaili City. During the journey, you will stop to admire the beauty of the Sky Bridge. Upon arrival, you will take part in a welcome ceremony hosted by the local Miao people and enjoy a long table banquet for lunch at a local home.

Following lunch, we will drive for approximately 25 minutes to visit another Miao Village called Stone Bridge, where you will learn how to make flower paper. If interested, you can also swim in the local river. After this, we will drive to your hotel in Kaili, where you will have dinner at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel for a good rest.

Day 3Explore Kaili Miao Villages

Today, after having breakfast, we will start our trip. First, we will drive about 2.5 hours to a local Miao Village and walk around to see the local traditional lifestyles. Afterward, we will have lunch before embarking on a 3-hour hike to another Miao village. During the hike, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful rice terraces, mountain views, and ancient villages along the way. You will be amazed by the natural beauty and rich vegetation, including several hundred 1000-plus-year-old cedar trees. We will have lunch at a local family's home and then walk back to your guesthouse.

Day 4Drive to visit Langde Village, then hike to Matang Village, and finally go to Rongjiang overnight.

After breakfast, we will drive for about 1.5 hours to visit Langde Village of Long Skirt Miao and watch a local traditional singing and dancing show. We will have lunch at a local family restaurant and then drive for 1 hour to the hiking trail point. From there, we will hike for one hour to Matang village of Gejia minority to learn how the locals make the batik - a Miao Intangible Cultural Heritage. After that, we will drive for 2 hours to Rongjiang and check into your hotel. In the evening, dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant.

Day 5Hike to Black Miao Village to have a lunch, then drive to Huanggang Dong Village, and attend the Grand Choirs Bonfire party at night.

Today, after having breakfast, we will drive for about 1 hour to the hiking trail point. Then, we'll hike for 3 hours along the beautiful rice terraces to reach a village of the Black Miao community where we will have lunch at a local family's place. After that, we will drive for about 1.5 hours to Huanggang Dong Village and check into your boutique guesthouse. You'll have the opportunity to walk around and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of the locals. You can also enjoy lunch at a local family's place. In the evening, you can attend the Grand Choirs Bonfire party and appreciate the authentic Dong ethnic songs (Grand Choirs) sung by locals, which have been listed as international intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. After the party, you can head back to your guesthouse hotel.

Day 6Depart from Rongjiang

Today is the time to say goodbye. Before we go, you have time to enjoy your free time to explore this 800-year-old village. And then we will drive 3.5 hours to Guiyang airport for your flight back home. Have a good trip.

Climate and Altitude

Generally speaking Mid March—End Oct are the best time to visit Silk Road. And we strongly suggest you come in May, June, October to avoid the heat and crowd. No need to worry about high altitude along the Silk Road. We will prepare Oxygen bags if the package includes Xiahe, Qinghai Lake and Taxkorgan County.
