Today, you will fly to Khiva from Tashkent first (07:00-08:30), then our representative will meet you at Turkmen/Uzbek border "Shavat" (10:30). Border transfer (10:30-13:30). Lunch time (13:30-14:30). Drive to Darwaza burning Gas Crater (14:30-17:30). The Crater is also called as "The Door to Hell". The area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, former Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 60m and 20m deep. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn it off. The geologists had hoped the fire would be put out in a few days, but the gas is still burning today. In the evening, watch the spectacular and fascinating view of the gas crater. Dinner at 21:00.
Start your day with a delightful picnic - style breakfast served between 8:00 and 9:00. Bask in the morning sunlight as you savor local delicacies, setting a relaxed tone for the day ahead. After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Ashgabat. As you journey, the vast expanse of the Karakum desert unfolds before you. The golden sands stretch as far as the eye can see, interrupted only by the occasional rugged rock formation.
During the drive, make a charming stop at the small desert village of Erbent. Wander through the narrow, sandy streets, interact with the friendly locals, and soak in the unique desert-village atmosphere. Explore the simple yet vibrant local life, observe traditional handicrafts being made, and perhaps sample some homemade treats.Upon arrival in Ashgabat at around 14:00, head straight to a local eatery for a well-deserved lunch, which will last until 15:00. Indulge in a variety of Turkmen dishes, from savory kebabs to flavorful stews, and experience the rich local cuisine.After lunch, visit the National Museum. Immerse yourself in the exhibits that showcase Turkmenistan's deep-rooted past, from ancient artifacts to historical documents. Learn about the evolution of the Turkmen people, their traditions, and how their lifestyle has changed over the centuries.
Conclude your day with a tour of the city center. Admire the grandeur of Ashgabat's architecture, including the iconic white - marbled buildings that earned the city its nickname. Stroll through bustling squares, visit local markets, and take in the lively energy of the city. Finally, enjoy a delicious dinner at 19:00, reflecting on the day's adventures as you dine.
Start your day with a leisurely breakfast between 9:00 and 10:00. Fuel up for an exciting day ahead as you anticipate the wonders that await.Next, make your way to the Nissa Fortress. This place is truly special, having been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. It was founded by Arsaces I around 250-211 BC and was one of the Parthian capitals. Although its exact function as a royal residence or mausoleum remains uncertain, the fortress is filled with historical mystery. Wander around the ancient ruins, imagining the grandeur of the Parthian era.After that, drive to the Turkmenbashy Ruhy Mosque in Kipchak. As the largest mosque in Central Asia, it's a magnificent sight. Admire its towering minarets, beautiful domes, and intricate architecture. The mosque is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of Turkmenistan's rich Islamic heritage.At 13:00, sit down for a delicious lunch. Taste local dishes and experience the unique flavors of Turkmenistan.
In the afternoon, visit the Horse hippodrome. Here, you'll encounter the Akhalteke horses, the pride of Turkmenistan. Bred for 5000 years, these horses are truly one-of-a-kind, never mixed with other breeds. Emperors like Alexander the Great and Darius I were eager to own them. According to local superstition, touching an Akhalteke horse can bring good health. Get close to these majestic creatures and feel their power and grace.
Finally, explore Ashgabat, the "white marbled city" as named by the Guinness Book of Records in 2013. Visit the Presidential Palace, Ruhyyet Palace, and Wedding Palace, and marvel at their elegant white marble facades. Don't miss the modern “Yildyz” Hotel, the Ferries Wheel, and various monuments like the Constitution Monument, Arch of Neutrality, and Monument and park of Independence. Also, pay a visit to the Ertogrul Gazy Mosque, and check out the local sports and housing facilities. Remember to visit the Earthquake and WWII victims' monuments to learn about the city's history.End your day with a satisfying dinner at 19:00. Begin your day with a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel between 8:00 and 9:00. Indulge in a variety of local and international dishes, savoring the flavors as you fuel up for the day's adventures. After breakfast, at 9:00 sharp, you'll board a comfortable vehicle for the approximately 3 hour drive to Mary.
During the journey, enjoy the changing landscapes outside your window. The scenery gradually unfolds, from the cityscape of Ashgabat to the more rural and arid landscapes that lead to Mary. Chat with your guide, who can share interesting facts about the region, its history, and the people who live here.At 12:00, you'll finally arrive in Mary. But the real excitement is yet to come as you make your way to Ancient Merv, once known as the “Queen of the world”. This ancient city was a crucial center in the Islamic world, standing alongside Baghdad, Cairo, and Damascus.
As you explore Ancient Merv, start with the Greater Kyz Gala and Lesser Kyz Gala from the VI-VII centuries. Wander through the ruins, imagining what life was like for the people who lived here so long ago. Next, visit the Complex of Askhabs, which dates back to the VIII-XIV centuries. Notice the unique architecture and the way the buildings have withstood the test of time.Then, head to Erk Gala, which has roots in VI BC, and Gyaur Gala from IV BC. These ancient structures offer a fascinating glimpse into the early history of Merv. Don't miss the Hoja Yusup Hamadani complex, a place filled with religious and cultural significance. Pay your respects at the Sultan Sanjar mausoleum and Muhamed Ibn Zeid mausoleum, two solemn and beautiful sites that honor important figures from the past.At 14:00, take a break for lunch. Sample local specialties in a traditional restaurant, experiencing the rich and diverse cuisine of the area. After lunch, continue to soak in the atmosphere of Ancient Merv, perhaps taking some time to shop for local handicrafts or souvenirs.
As the day winds down, at 19:35, you'll board a flight back to Ashgabat. Sit back, relax, and reflect on the amazing day you've had exploring one of the most important ancient cities in Islamic history. The flight lands at 20:15, bringing you back to Ashgabat with a heart full of memories and a head full of new knowledge.
It's a free day in Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan. You can start your day at your own pace. If you're a food lover, head to a local bazaar. Wander through the bustling stalls filled with an array of fresh produce, fragrant spices, and delicious local snacks. Try some "kymyz," a fermented mare's milk drink unique to the region, or sample various types of kebabs, their flavors enhanced by local seasonings.
Upon arrival at Ashgabat International Airport, the driver will help you unload your luggage. They'll guide you to the check-in counter, making sure you're in the right place. Before you part ways, don't forget to express your gratitude for their excellent service. With that, you're ready to begin your journey home, carrying with you the wonderful memories of your time in Turkmenistan.
