Spanning over 3000 square kilometers, it was a thriving region with 78 oases and more than 150 compact settlements. According to the American newspaper “Boston Globe,” the discoveries here have led to the speculation that it could be considered the fifth oldest center of the world’s civilization, alongside Egypt, India, China, and Mesopotamia.

Day 5 starts with a hearty breakfast at the hotel in Mary. Fueled up, you'll then embark on a short 35-kilometer, 40-minute drive to Merv, a city that was once on par with Baghdad, Cairo, and Damascus as one of the most important historical capitals in the Islamic and pre-Islamic eras.
Upon arrival in Merv, a world of ancient wonders unfolds before you. Begin your exploration at Greater Kyz Gala and Lesser Kyz Gala, remnants from the VI-VII centuries. These ancient structures offer a glimpse into the early architecture and lifestyle of the time. On Day 6, the day begins with a transfer to Ashgabat International Airport. From there, you'll board a flight to Turkmenbashi, marking the start of a journey towards some of Turkmenistan's most spectacular natural landscapes.Once you arrive in Turkmenbashi, a drive of about 185 kilometers, which takes around 3 hours, awaits you. The destination-The enchanting Yangykala Canyons. Translating to "fire fortress" in Turkmen, these canyons are a sight to behold. The towering cliffs, in shades of white, yellow, ocher, purple, and red, have been shaped by the forces of wind and rain over time. As you explore the canyons, you'll feel like you've stepped into a fantasy world filled with stone castles and otherworldly formations.
After spending time in the Yangykala Canyons, it's time to hit the road again. Drive for about 180 kilometers, or 3 hours, to Balkanabat. This city offers a different kind of experience, a chance to see the local life and culture. Check into your hotel in Balkanabat, and as the day comes to an end, reflect on the amazing natural beauty you've witnessed during the day. Kick off Day 7 with a satisfying breakfast at the hotel in Balkanabat. After fueling up, embark on a 313 kilometer, 4-hour drive to Nohur mountain village. Tucked away in a small depression valley of the Kopet Dag Range, this village is a hidden gem. The streets, except for the main one, are incredibly narrow, with high stone retaining walls on either side that barely allow a car to pass through.
The Nohkuri people here have a distinct culture compared to other Turkmen tribes. According to local legends, this was the mooring place of Noah's Ark, which adds an air of mystery to the place. Explore the village and visit the great tree, a symbol of the area's natural heritage. Don't miss the unique cemetery, where nearly every grave is marked by a wooden post adorned with mountain goat horns. Make a wish at the wish tree named after Kyz Bibi for good luck.Next, drive 102 kilometers in 1.5 hours to the Gokdepe fortress. This historical site was the scene of a significant event in 1880 when it was attacked by the Russian Empire Army. The siege lasted 23 days, leaving a mark on Turkmenistan's history.
