Day 1Arrive in Guiyang - Drive to Huishui - Hike to Buyi Village - Hike to reach a cave camping base

Upon arrival in Guiyang, your local guide will be waiting for you at the airport's arrival hall. You will then be transferred to Huishui, which will take approximately 2 hours. After having lunch, you will start your trek, hiking past mountains that feature the Karst landform for about 2 hours until you reach Buyi village, which is situated at an elevation of 800-900m. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to explore ancient villages and enjoy beautiful karst scenery. After that, you'll hike uphill for about 30 minutes to reach a Karst cave camping base. Tonight, we will be camping inside the Giant Cave and enjoying a dinner of local food within the cave.

Day 2Drive to Sandu - visit the SHUI Minority Intangible Cultural Heritage Center - Hike to hilltop village of SHUI

We will drive to Sandu and make a stop along the way to enjoy the sky bridge and visit the SHUI Minority Intangible Cultural Heritage Center. During our visit, we will have the opportunity to learn how to write the SHUI pictophonetic characters, which have a history of over 2,000 years. These characters consist of about 400 words in shapes similar to oracle bone inscriptions and are mainly used in shamanism.

Afterward, we will head towards the remote hilltop village of SHUI, which has a history of more than 300 years. This well-preserved SHUI village is steeped in traditional culture and customs and is situated halfway up the mountain, surrounded by breathtaking nature. We will have the chance to visit village families, and the chief will introduce us to their history and culture. We will then stay overnight at a boutique guesthouse.

Day 3Drive along Duliu River - Explore Miao Village in Rongjiang

Drive for 1 hour along the Duliu River to explore a local Miao village and experience the lifestyle, including the women's festival costumes. 

After lunch, drive for 1.5 hours and then hike for 1.5 hours (elevation: 500m-650m) to reach another Miao Village, passing through the Moon Mountain Nature Reserve. You will be able to stroll through a small path and enjoy the mountain view. Stay overnight at a boutique guesthouse with a marvelous view of the terraces.

Day 4Hike through Jiabang Rice Terraces - Enjoy a lunch in Miao village - Drive to Miao village of Barn guesthouse - Drive to Congjiang

Hike for about 2.5 hours through a beautiful valley with stunning rice terraces in the morning. Authentic Miao villagers have been passing down traditional knowledge of the harmonious co-existence of people and nature for generations. Enjoy a lunch picnic with toast, snacks, fruits, and wine.

Afterward, drive along the Duliu River to the Miao village of Barn guesthouse. You'll have the opportunity to visit local families, experience Miao culture, practice playing the Lusheng flute, and participate in Miao festival dancing.

Drive to Congjiang and overnight at Congjiang town(40minutes driving).

Day 5Visit Yao Village, experience the Yao people's life and culture - Drive to Zhaoxing Dong Village

We will drive 2 hours to a Yao village and visit the local herbal medicine plantation and paddy fields. Afterward, we will have a family lecture about Yao costumes, including their history, legends, and culture, followed by lunch in a villager's house. Then, we will experience the famous“Yao ethnic herbal bath,”known for its relaxation and recovery benefits. After the bath, we will enjoy a special local snack called "youcha" (tea soup with fried rice). Finally, we will drive about 2 hours to Zhaoxing Dong village.

Day 6Visit Zhaoxing Dong Village

Zhaoxing Dong Village is one of the largest Dong villages in Guizhou. Zhaoxing has over 800 households and more than 4,000 inhabitants. It is located in a basin surrounded by mountains and has a small river passing through it. The village features stilted houses built on the hillside, all constructed with Chinese fir and black tile roofs.

You are free to visit Zhaoxing Dong Village in the morning to experience the local wax-printing. Afterward, you can drive to Guiyang airport after lunch to end the tour.

Climate and Altitude

Generally speaking Mid March—End Oct are the best time to visit Silk Road. And we strongly suggest you come in May, June, October to avoid the heat and crowd. No need to worry about high altitude along the Silk Road. We will prepare Oxygen bags if the package includes Xiahe, Qinghai Lake and Taxkorgan County.
