Jiangxi Weather

Jiangxi Province is situated in the southeastern part of China, featuring a diverse terrain of mountains, hills, and plains, leading to varying temperature changes across different regions.

Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi Province, is located in the lower reaches of the Gan River, situated in a plain area. Its climate is typically subtropical and humid, with hot and wet summers and relatively mild winters. In recent years, the maximum temperature in Nanchang during summer often exceeds 35℃, while the minimum temperature in winter rarely falls below 0℃. In the summer of 2023, Nanchang issued multiple heat warnings as the temperature rose above 40℃. However, even when cold air masses moved southward during winter, the temperature in Nanchang remained at a relatively warm level.

Jiujiang City is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, adjacent to the Yangtze River, and has a complex terrain that includes mountainous regions and plains. The climate of Jiujiang is similar to that of Nanchang, but due to its more northern location, the winter temperatures are relatively lower. For instance, during the winter of 2023, Jiujiang experienced multiple frost and low-temperature rain and snow events, with the lowest temperature dropping to several degrees below zero, which had an certain impact on local agriculture and transportation.

Ganzhou City is located in the southern part of Jiangxi Province, with mountainous and hilly terrain dominating the landscape. Influenced by the marine climate, the temperature changes in Ganzhou differ from those in the northern regions. The summers in Ganzhou are relatively cool, while the winters are warmer and wetter. In the spring of 2024, the temperature in Ganzhou remained relatively stable with fluctuation, neither experiencing extreme high temperatures nor significant low temperatures. This favorable climate condition was beneficial for local agricultural production.

Furthermore, due to the complexity and uncertainty of the climate system, annual temperature changes can be influenced by various factors such as atmospheric circulation, ocean temperatures, and topography. Therefore, further research and observation are necessary to understand the annual temperature variations in each province of Jiangxi Province.

The annual precipitation variations in Jiangxi Province are influenced by various factors, including the monsoon climate, topography, the intensity of subtropical high pressure, and global climate change. These factors lead to significant variations in precipitation both between years and between seasons in Jiangxi Province.Jiangxi belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone, which inherently implies significant seasonal variations in precipitation. The concentrated rainfall period in Jiangxi falls between April and June every year, and the average rainfall during these three months accounts for approximately 45% to 50% of the annual precipitation. Sporadic strong convective weather and the plum rain season in summer also bring about a large amount of rainfall. However, in other seasons, especially winter, precipitation is relatively low.
