Bulongkol Lake


Taxkorgan Bulungkol Lake, also known as Pamir Plateau Baisha Lake and Chakrak Lake, is the must pass place to go from Kashgar to Taxkorgan, located on the edge of the national road. The name "Bulungkol" is from the Kyrgyz language, meaning "lake in the corner".

Features of Bulungkol Lake

The lake is like a mirror, the white sand is like snow, and the scenery is gorgeous. Walking out of the Gaizi Gorge and entering the Pamir Plateau, you can see Baisha Lake. It is nestled next to the huge Baisha Mountain, where the water from the river gathers to form a lake, and the deposited white sand is exposed in the cold season when the water level drops, and is blown up the hillside by the strong winds day and night and finally formed the spectacle of gathering sand into mountains.

On the viewing platform, visitors can look out over Bulungkol Lake and take photographs。

Walking down to the lake is a wide lake beach with many horse riding and yak riding vendors.  Travelers are taking photos around the lake.


When to visit Bulungkol Lake

May to October is the best time to visit Bulungkol Lake. The weather is more pleasant in summer. The color of the lake water is even more beautiful.


How to get to Bulungkol Lake

It is 165 kilometers (about 3.5 hours driving) away from Kashgar city to Bulungkol Lake. Travelers can take a car or a coach to Bulungkol Lake.
