Shanghai Landmark Skyscrapers

Three Icons of Shanghai

The "Three Icons" of Lujiazui in Shanghai refer to the Shanghai World Financial Center, the Shanghai Tower, and the Jinmao Tower. These three landmark buildings are the most distinctive and unique in Pudong, and each offers a unique view from its high-rise observation deck. The Shanghai World Financial Center's architectural style is filled with modernity and futuristic vision, as its designers skillfully integrated Eastern traditions with modern elements, giving this building a unique charm. The rotating form of the Shanghai Tower allows the building to extend gracefully from the ground to the clouds, following geometric principles, symbolizing the transcendence of time and space, surpassing the shackles of the mundane world. The Jinmao Tower's architectural design is inspired by ancient Chinese pagodas. A "Wen Ta" (literary pagoda) is a pagoda dedicated to Wenqu Xing, the deity who oversees the fates of scholars and intellectuals. Its exterior resembles the shape of a pen nib pointing upward, dipping into the Huangpu River to write a new chapter in Shanghai's continuous pursuit of prosperity and development.

The Shanghai World Financial Center

The Shanghai World Financial Center stands at a towering height of 492 meters, boasting a uniquely designed exterior resembling a giant bottle-opener, showing Shanghai's spirit of relentless progress and innovation. The 94th, 97th, and 100th floors serve as observation decks, and it is on the 100th floor where you can find the most expansive view—a breathtaking, 55-meter-long suspended glass skywalk. Here, you can observe the cars and pedestrians on the streets below with clarity, gaze straight at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and capture the image of the Jinmao Tower. As the sun sets, standing on the observation deck and gazing afar, you can appreciate the layered beauty of the Puxi skyline across the Huangpu River, fully embracing the unique charm of this vibrant city.

Shanghai Tower

The Shanghai Tower, standing at a height of 632 meters, is the tallest building in China. Primarily serving as an office complex, it also houses various functions such as exhibition halls, hotels, observation decks, entertainment facilities, and commercial spaces. To ensure swift and comfortable access to different floors, the Shanghai Tower employs an advanced ultra-high-speed elevator system. These elevators reach a speed of up to 18 meters per second, making vertical movement almost imperceptible. It also boasts the highest observation deck in China. Standing on the 119th floor, at the peak of Shanghai Tower, you will enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the entire city. Through the crystal-clear glass, you can see the slow-flowing Huangpu River, overlook the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Jinmao Tower, all of which create a truly breathtaking sight.

Jinmao Tower

云中漫步.jpg a walk in the clouds

As a representative work of high-rise buildings in China in the 20th century, the 402.5m-tall Jinmao Tower is a fusion of contemporary architectural technology and history, becoming a cross-century landmark of Shanghai and even China. It is also the only attraction in Shanghai where you can experience a walk in the clouds. Standing on the open-air, unprotected observation walkway on the 88th floor, 340.6 meters above the ground, you'll find yourself suspended above an abyss. If you seek to touch the clouds and mist at zero distance, challenge your limits, and experience the thrill of a racing heartbeat, then this is the perfect place for you. At Jinmao Tower, you can only capture the Oriental Pearl Tower in your photos, as it is the closest building to this tower.

Oriental Pearl Tower

The Oriental Pearl Tower stands tall in Lujiazui, Pudong, and complements the architectural ensemble of the Bund across the Huangpu River. It is a famous landmark in Shanghai and the third tallest television tower in Asia. The tower reaches a height of 468 meters, consisting of 11 spheres of varying sizes connected in series. By ascending to the three main spheres, you can admire the urban scenery along both sides of the Huangpu River from different heights. If you take a visit at night, the magnificent lights of Shanghai under the cover of darkness will make the experience even more unforgettable.

Moreover, the Oriental Pearl Tower is also a small world of entertainment, cuisine, exhibitions, and shopping. At the Shanghai Urban History Museum located at the base of the tower, you can learn about a history of changes in modern Shanghai. Then, scream along with the "VR Roller Coaster" at 95 meters high. After a wonderful day of fun, take a break in the revolving restaurant to sample cuisine from all over the world and enjoy live cooking performances. To conclude your journey, head to the souvenir floor to pick up some unique keepsakes, or purchase a postcard, stamp it with the postmark from the Sky Post Office, and send it to yourself or your loved ones.
