You can experience almost all the cuisines of Central Asia in Turkmenistan, but there are also some flavors that are unique to Turkmenistan.
Humbur- a traditional Turkmen meat dumpling. It is made of lamb, Onions, carrots, garlic and spices, wrapped in a pastry and steamed, with a rich gravy and a delicious taste.
Dograma- authentic Turkmen cuisine. It can be traced back to the Turkmen ritual of sacrifice. Today Dogramma is still one of the favorites of Turkmen and can be found on special occasions, weddings and religious festivals.Dogramma's ingredients include fresh lamb, Onions and flatbread. The baked bread is torn into small pieces, then mixed with Onions and shredded meat, and finally placed in a bowl, drizzled with hot soup, and shared.
Govurdak-It is one of the most popular meat dishes among Turkmen. It is fried with the fat of the meat itself, and can be eaten hot and cold, mainly with Turkmen flatbread.It was also used by people as a way to preserve meat.
Apandi- a traditional drink in Turkmenistan. Made from milk, mare milk, cream and sugar, it is rich and nutritious. It is a part of Turkmen's daily life and an important drink for guests.
Gutap- Usually served as a side dish, it is a half-moon shaped pastry. It is filled with meat or spinach, pumpkin, onion, salt and pepper.
