During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei, the emperor of Shu Han, retreated to White Emperor City after a devastating defeat. Here, he entrusted his son Liu Shan to the care of his chancellor, Zhuge Liang, in a famous event known as the "White Emperor City Entrustment".
