Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster


The Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster is a typical cluster of Hakka Tulou buildings located in Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City. It is mainly composed of one square building, three round buildings and one oval building, which are Buyun Building, Zhenchang Building, Ruiyun Building, He Chang Building and Wenchang Building. Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster built in the order of the generation among five elements "metal, wood, water, fire, and earth". Due to its unique combination of architectural styles, the Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster is considered a model of Hakka Tulou clusters in Fujian Province.

The square Tulou in the middle of Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, named "Buyun Building", was built in 1662-1672, with three floors, 26 rooms per floor. Around the Buyun Building are three round Tulou, named "Hechang Building", "Zhenchang Building" (built in 1930), “Ruiyun Building" (built in 1936); And an oval tulou named "Wenchang Lou" (built in 1966).

Tulou in Tianluokeng Village has strong Hakka customs and folk culture. Inside the Tulou, there are public Spaces such as ancestral halls, places of worship, and reception rooms, as well as living facilities such as private residences, warehouses, and kitchens. They are spectacular in appearance and exquisite in interior, adapting to the changes of the natural environment.

Attractions of Tianluokeng Village

Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster: This is the core scenic spot of Tianluokeng Village, which consists of a square Buyun building, three round Zhenchang buildings, Ruiyun buildings Hechang buildings, and an oval Wenchang building. These five earthen buildings are scattered according to the mountain, forming an architectural pattern of "four dishes and one soup". Visitors can visit the Hakka life scenes inside the Tulou, appreciate the architectural structure and decorative art of the Tulou, and feel the culture and customs of the Hakka people.

Yuchang Building: This is a separate attraction located in Yuchang village, about 3 km southwest of Tianluokeng village. Yuchang building is a four-story circular Tulou built in 1902. It is the largest single Tulou in Fujian Province and the largest circular Tulou in China. There are more than 400 rooms inside the building, which can accommodate more than 800 people. Yuchang building is magnificent in appearance and exquisite in interior.

Taxia Village: It is a historic Hakka village located about 5 km northeast of Tian Luokeng Village. Taxia Village has two Tulou and an ancient pagoda, namely the square Yongan Building, the round Yongfu Building, and the stone pagoda built in the Song Dynasty. Taxia Village retains many Hakka traditional customs and folk activities, such as ancestor worship, market, and playing mahjong.
