The afternoon arrives in Nanchang as we embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive towards the breathtaking Longhu Mountain scenic spot. This majestic mountain, also known colloquially as Dragon and Tiger Mountain, holds a profound place in Taoism, boasting a rich and lengthy history that dates back centuries. Longhu Mountain is not only a spiritual destination for Taoists but also a natural wonder that captures the essence of the Danxia landform. Its landscape is characterized by cliffy scarps that rise abruptly from the ground, creating a breathtaking contrast against the sky. The red cliffs and rocks that adorn the mountain are a vivid reminder of the earth's fiery origins, their hues varying from deep crimson to fiery orange, depending on the time of day and the sun's angle.
Amidst this captivating scenery, another marvelous sight awaits visitors: the Cliff Tombs. These ancient tombs, carved into the cliffs themselves, are a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of past civilizations. They stand as silent guardians, overseeing the valley below and adding a layer of mystery and intrigue to the majestic landscape. In 2010, Longhu Mountain was awarded the prestigious status of a World Natural Heritage Site.
In the early morning, with mist still hovering over the serene landscape, we embarked on a journey to explore the captivating Xian Shui Yan Scenic Area. Our first activity was a serene bamboo raft ride down the Luxi River. As we gently glided down the river, the soft rustling of bamboo against the water and the tranquil sounds of nature filled the air, creating a serene atmosphere. After the rafting adventure, we boarded a shuttle bus to visit the Taoism temple nestled amidst lush greenery. The serene atmosphere and ancient architecture of the temple left us feeling refreshed and at peace.
As the sun gradually rose higher in the sky, we prepared for our next destination, Sanqing Mountain. After a scenic 3-hour drive, we arrived at the foot of this majestic mountain, listed as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. Sanqing Mountain is not only a sacred place for Taoists but also one of the major national parks in China, renowned for its natural beauty. The mountain's charm lies in its oddly shaped pines, rocks, and dense forests. As we gazed up at the towering peaks, we could see the pines clinging precariously to the cliffs, their twisted branches reaching toward the sky. The rocks, on the other hand, were a maze of strange shapes and formations, creating a mysterious and intriguing landscape. The dense forests that covered the slopes added a layer of mystery and serenity to the mountain's charm. Staying at the base of such a majestic mountain was an experience in itself. We felt a sense of tranquility and awe as we soaked in the beauty and grandeur of nature.
In the early morning, we board the cable car, ascending towards the peak of Sanqing Mountain. Upon arrival, we embark on a hike to the Nan Qing Yuan Scenic Area, renowned as the most beautiful section of the mountain. Here, we'll encounter the majestic Goddess Peak and the enigmatic Python Rock Peak, each a breathtaking sight.
After admiring these wonders, we continue our journey to the West Coast and East Coast Scenic Areas, where we'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the mountain's natural beauty. From cascading waterfalls to verdant forests, each vista is a masterpiece of nature. As the day draws to a close, we descend the mountain and settle down at its foot for the night, surrounded by the serene sounds of nature.
In the morning, after checking out, we will start our journey to Wuyuan, a destination that is approximately 1.5 hours away. Once a remote region, its eastern flank was inaccessible by road until the 1960s. However, today, Wuyuan is celebrated as China's most beautiful countryside, showcasing unspoiled natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of Wuyuan is Likeng Village, a picturesque locale where a river flows gracefully, crossed by both wooden and stone bridges. This village is a showcase of "Hui" (Anhui) style Ming and Qing architecture, characterized by its distinctive white walls and grey/black roof tiles. Walking through Likeng Village allows one to almost feel the pulse of history as they admire these ancient buildings, each with its own unique story to tell.
Another noteworthy destination is Wangkou Village, which until the 1960s was only accessible by river transport. This village is home to the Yu family's Ancestral Hall, a national historical site under special protection. Inside, one can marvel at the multitude of intricate woodcarvings that adorn the interior, each piece a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who created them. As we explore these villages, we are transported to a bygone era, where traditional architecture and culture flourish in harmony with nature.
After a refreshing break, we continue our exploration of Wuyuan. One of the highlights is Qinghua town's 800-year-old Caihong (Rainbow) Bridge. This is undoubtedly one of the finest preserved and most captivating roofed bridges in southern China. Spanning a length of 140 meters and a width of 7 meters, this architectural masterpiece from the Song dynasty boasts five corridors and six pavilions, each exuding a sense of elegance and tranquility. As we cross the bridge, we are greeted by the serene beauty of the surrounding landscape. Mountains and streams create a picturesque backdrop. The bridge itself is adorned with intricate carvings and designs, a testament to the craftsmanship and vision of the builders who constructed it centuries ago.
From here, we journey to Sixi Village, a settlement established in 1199 AD during the Southern Song Dynasty. Nestled amidst a lush landscape of mountains and streams, Sixi Village embodies the principles of good feng shui, with water features gracefully flowing in front and hills rising behind. This harmonious blend of nature and human habitation creates a serene and peaceful atmosphere that is truly captivating.
Finally, we set off on a journey to Jingdezhen, a destination that takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach. As we drive through the countryside, we relish the beauty of the surrounding landscape and the serenity of the moment, looking forward to our overnight stay in this historic city.
Drive for 3 hours to Lu Mountain, a UNESCO Natural and Cultural Heritage site since 1996. Once we arrive, we transfer to a local sightseeing bus, eager to explore the wonders that await us. Our first stop is The Flower Path Park, known locally as Hua Jing. Here, we take a leisurely walk, surrounded by a tapestry of vibrant colors and fragrances. Each flower seems to dance in the soft breeze, greeting us with their unique beauty. From Hua Jing, we proceed to Brocade Valley, also known as Jing Xiu Gu. As we descend into the valley, our breath is taken away by the breathtaking natural scenery. The lush greenery, crystal-clear streams, and towering cliffs create a breathtaking panorama that leaves us in awe of nature's majesty.
Our final destination is Guling Town, a bustling mountain street. We are greeted by a variety of hotel and villa architectures, each with its own unique style and color. These buildings, with their intricate designs and vibrant hues, reflect the town's rich history and diverse culture.
During your sightseeing tour in Lushan, a must-visit is the Wangjiang Pavilion. Here, you'll find a serene setting where, if the weather conditions are favorable, you might be lucky to witness the breathtaking spectacle of the Cloudfall. The clouds, billowing and cascading over the mountainside, create a magical sight that is truly breathtaking.
Afterward, you'll journey to Hanpokou, a vantage point offering stunning views of the vast Poyang Lake and the towering Great Hanyang Peak. Standing at a height of 1,474 meters, it is the highest peak in Lushan, commanding a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, Wulao Peak, situated on the mountain's southeast side, stands as the second-highest peak, offering its unique perspective of the natural wonders. Finally, you'll visit the Three Treasure Tree Scenic Area, a serene oasis where beautiful streams and cascading waterfalls await. Here, you can unwind and admire the natural beauty of Lushan, taking in the sights and sounds of the cascading water and the lush greenery that surrounds you.
