The Bund
The Bund (Wai Tan), with a total length of 1.5 kilometers, extends from Yan'an East Road in the south to the Waibaidu Bridge over the Suzhou River in the north. It is one of the most iconic attractions in Shanghai. Located along the Huangpu River, it is bordered by Shanghai Financial Center. With its prime location and convenient transportation, the Bund serves as a bridge connecting Shanghai's old city district with its modern metropolis. The history of the Bund can be traced back to the mid-19th century, when it was the city's trade center. Since 1844, it has been designated as a British concession, becoming a true portrayal of commercial district known as "Shi Li Yang Chang" (lit. "Ten-mile Foreign Quarter"), and also marking the beginning of the old Shanghai concession area as well as the start of Shanghai's modern urban development. Until 1943, when the concession was recovered, the century-long history of the Bund as a concession came to an end.

The cruise ships gliding on the River add a touch of dynamism to the scene.
