Since the Tang and Song dynasties, locals have gathered to admire the blooming peonies during their peak season, a tradition deeply ingrained in the culture of the area. To honor and propagate this cherished custom, the city of Pengzhou has designated the period around Qingming (Tomb Sweeping Day) as the annual Tianpeng Peony Festival. During this festive time, visitors can marvel at the display of rare and exquisite peony flowers and embark on a journey to Danjing Mountain, where the peonies bloom in their natural habitat. In addition to these floral delights, the festival also features cultural and entertainment activities that are rich in local folklore, as well as exhibitions showcasing local specialties and handicrafts. 


Dujiangyan Water Releasing Festival

The Dujiangyan irrigation system stands as the lifeblood of the Chengdu Plain, and thus, the annual water release before spring plowing is considered a sacred festival by the local residents. In recent years, the Dujiangyan Municipal Government has transformed the traditional folk Qingming Festival into a government-sponsored Water Release Festival. The festival is enacted by water officials dressed in ancient costumes and an honor guard, who perform the entire process of the water release. Alongside this, there are also captivating folk dance and song performances, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the proceedings.
