Marvel at the engineering wonder of the Three Gorges Dam and explore its museum, uncovering the stories behind this monumental feat of human ambition.
Trek through pristine forests in Shennongjia, encounter golden snub-nosed monkeys, and stand in awe at the breathtaking Shennong Valley, China’s "Grand Canyon of the East."
Step into the Tang Dynasty at White Emperor City, a cliffside fortress steeped in poetry, and wander the ancient salt-trade lanes of Xituo Ancient Town.
Cruise through the dramatic Qutang Gorge and mist-shrouded Wu Gorge, where sheer cliffs rise like nature’s cathedral.
Your journey begins in Yichang, where the Yangzi Explorer awaits at Maoping Port. As the sun dips below the horizon, choose to delve into the colossal Three Gorges Dam, its concrete slopes a testament to human ambition, or wander the serene Qu Yuan Temple, where pavilions honor the poet who inspired the Dragon Boat Festival. Board the ship under a canopy of stars, savoring a welcome buffet dinner as the vessel glides into the night, passing through the awe-inspiring Three Gorges Ship Lift, its mechanical symphony echoing beneath the sky.
Awaken to the crisp mountain air as the ship docks near Shennongjia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Venture into the heart of its primeval forests, where golden snub-nosed monkeys leap through canopies and the Shennong Valley unveils vistas rivaling the Grand Canyon. Hike along mist-kissed trails to the Dalongtan Research Base, then stand at the edge of Shennong Valley, where cliffs plunge into ethereal fog. Return to the ship at dusk, where live music and a starlit deck await.
Morning light bathes the Wu Gorge in gold as the ship navigates its serpentine waters. Disembark to explore the White Emperor City, its ancient walls clinging to cliffs above the roaring Yangtze, or trek the Poetic Trail of Qutang Gorge, where Tang Dynasty verses seem etched into the very air, or climb on the Three Gorges Summit to enjoy the best view of Yangtze River. As twilight paints the sky, toast to the day’s adventures with a gourmet dinner, the ship’s lights reflecting on the river like scattered jewels.
Today you can choose to wander the 12-story marvel of Shibaozhai Pagoda, its wooden beams defying centuries, or stroll Xituo Ancient Town, where Ming-era cobblestones whisper tales of salt merchants and caravans. Alternatively, visit Huanghua Island, where Song Dynasty ruins whisper of ancient defenses. As evening falls, a crew performance blends traditional dance and song, celebrating the Yangtze’s enduring spirit, while the scent of jasmine tea lingers in the air.
On your final morning, the ship docks in Chongqing, the “Mountain City,” where skyscrapers cascade down hillsides like a waterfall of light. Disembark with memories of misty gorges and ancient legends.
